Die Trauerfeier von Otto...

Description

A sketch of the funeral procession of Archduke Otto of Austria (1912-2011). From the left to right: Frederick, Crown Prince of the German Empire; King Ludwig IV of Bavaria; Tsar Simeon II of Bulgaria; King Michael I of Romania; Empress Isabella and Emperor Joseph III of Austria, and Emperor D. Severus I of Brazil.

I put the subtitles and the footnotes in German to set the tone of the references: German postcards and photos of the World War I, mainly of the funeral of Otto’s great-granduncle, Emperor Franz Joseph I.

The first scene shows the Heads of States (mainly royals) following the hearse through the streets of Vienna. The next, the left below, shows the hearse from behind, leaving the cathedral. The next scene is Emperor Joseph III doing an unusual gesture: praying in front of Otto’s coffin.

Holy moly! That´s an impressive gathering of fictional monarchs!
I could imagine that that Ludwig and Franz Joseph are pretty good buddies.
While the Kingdom of Bavaria is part of the German Empire (and therefore subject to the Kingdom of Prussia), Austrians and Bavarians have more in common with each other (like Catholicism, the Austro-Bavarian dialect and strudel) than with these pesky Central-German speaking Protestants in Berlin. However, never lump Bavarians and Austrians together, they like this even less :D (Big Grin)
